Frequently Asked Questions
Why a 100% online degree from Davis & Elkins College?
Answer: Davis & Elkins College was founded in 1904 through the influence and efforts of Henry Gassaway Davis and Stephen Benton Elkins, two U.S Senators who were responsible for building the first railroad into the area. As such, our mission is to prepare and inspire students to success and thoughtful engagement in the world. Committed professors, small class sizes, and engaged students combine into a quality education fostering personal and professional growth. The institution is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
Why is the RN to BSN Baccalaureate Completion Program at Davis & Elkins right for you?
Answer: As a traditional, not-for-profit institution, D&E takes pride in having provided students with a high quality education since 1904. More importantly, the online program can be completed in as little as 12 months at an affordable price, making it ideal for your pursuit of career success.
I’m a working RN, how could I ever find the time to earn my degree?
Answer: The online RN-BSN degree completion program at Davis & Elkins is designed for working RNs with significant demands on their time which makes it difficult to complete a transitional course of study in residence on a campus. Just as important, there are no “traditional” clinical requirements, allowing you to complete your nursing practicum in your own work environment.
Who teaches the online courses?
Answer: Online courses are taught by some of the best-known faculty in their fields. Most students develop strong relationships with their professors, and often credit their successful education experience to those relationships.
Is financial assistance available for online students?
Answer: Absolutely. Financial aid services and support are available to online program students. Making education as affordable as possible is one of our primary goals at Davis & Elkins. We recognize that earning a degree is a significant investment in your future. Simply follow the steps outlined in the Tuition & Fees page, or submit a request for information, and a representative will contact you to help determine if you qualify.
What are the computer requirements for online students?
Answer: Our online platform is compatible with Mac or PC operating systems. Your admission counselor can help verify that your system meets the necessary software requirements for our online programs. In order to participate in classes, you should have regular access to the Internet and email, as well as, be familiar with creating, formatting, and attaching Microsoft Word documents.
Can you tell me which (if any) of my previous courses will transfer?
Answer: At Davis & Elkins, we recognize the prior learning experience of nurses who have completed an associate’s degree or diploma program in nursing. Our RN-BSN program is designed so that students only need to take 40 total credits to complete the program. There are no additional prerequisite courses or general education requirements outside of these 40 credits, making a transfer credit evaluation unnecessary. However, if you have taken a statistics course, it may potentially be eligible for transfer in order to meet the Statistics and Data Analysis requirement. Please contact your admissions counselor for the steps needed to determine the transferability of your prior statistics course.
May I receive credit for professional work experience?
Answer: Yes. Up to 24 credits may be awarded to nurses who enter the program with two years of professional work experience. By valuing the previous contributions of prospective students like you to the nursing profession, an RN-BSN degree can be even more affordable and achievable in less time than ever before.
Will my online courses have scheduled times to attend?
Answer: No. Your course is conducted according to a schedule outlined in your course syllabus, but there are no scheduled, “live” classes to attend. Lectures, coursework, and discussions all take place at your convenience, allowing you to choose when and where to work on your studies.
